There is a thread<\/strong> that links so much of my photography; I observe and I record; I don’t create.<\/p>\n The important thing<\/strong> to bear in mind when taking pictures of performers is that they are important to me but I’m not important to them. What I’m doing is strictly incidental to what they’re doing. So it’s vital to be as unobtrusive as I can.<\/p>\n Generally<\/strong> I attend the final dress-rehearsal, introduce myself, find a spot, then disappear into the scenery.<\/p>\n I never use flashguns<\/strong>, which is just as well since I never really learned how to use the damned things properly anyway. Being a performer myself, I’m well aware that the last thing you need when trying to concentrate onstage is some herbert bouncing up and down and firing off a flash every ten seconds.<\/p>\n This goes double<\/strong>, by the way, for the enormous number of school plays that I’ve photographed over the years. Year Sevens are very easily distracted.<\/p>\n Please feel free<\/strong> to browse through the various galleries of examples. The categories, which do overlap rather a lot, include Drama<\/a>, Musical Theatre<\/a>, Dance<\/a>, and Panto<\/a>. Not sure that Panto really needs a page of its own but I needed one more category for website-design symmetry reasons.
